Lindsey

"Lindsey"___10 x 8___Sarah's baby

I painted and delivered Lindsey a while ago! And pretty soon I will be painting Lindsey's playpal, Kerra. I really enjoy painting dogs, and have a few commissions in the works this month.

Tomorrow is the first day of school where I live. I have been busy setting up my classroom at Round Rock Christian Academy, where I am getting ready to begin my 19th year of teaching art. I used to teach all the classes but for the past few years I now only teach the high school artists. I like this age group, because they have great energy and they are fearless about art! So much of the teaching I do at my workshops comes from the years I have spent breaking down complicated art concepts for this age group....I am excited to start the school year, but hate to see the summer come to an end....

A Bernese Mountain Dog is Lost

"A Bernese Mountain Dog"
I received this note last night...
I have a favor to ask of you-and I ask it because I know you love dogs. Our son and daugher in law are both attorneys in Houston. They purchased some acreage and a house near Brenham, TEXAS-close to Carmine. They own two beautiful Bernese Mountain Dogs-they look like very "buff" tall St Bernards-about 100 pounds each. To make a long story short, Friday the dogs got lost at their property. They finally found one of them but "Horton" aka "Hootie" is still lost. They had a helicopter two days looking for the dog and have not found him. Is there any chance you can send out another email, asking that if someone finds Hootie that they call. The description would be black and white with some rust/brown markings and white at the tip of the long black tail. There is a very good reward. The numbers to call would be 713-822-0708 or 713-516-3593 or 817-253-1782 or 817-999-6543 or 713-524-4990. If no answer leave a message and number. I would so appreciate this. The dogs were the my only "grand" babies until our 1st grandson was born 17 months ago.
If you can not do this, I would understand but I had to try.

Sandy Man

"Sandy Man" 6 x 8
Sandy showed up one day....he was abandoned on the road and decided to adopt our family. We have had him for at least 14 years, so no telling how old he is now. He was always quiet and mellow, but definitely "alpha" as they say...he's just always there, alert to every wind and movement on the farm. This is his usual pose, now...he has really bad hips from jumping the fence for years. We pamper Sandy these days...I wonder what he thinks of this Last Year on the Farm? (I promise to start posting the Winter Day...24 paintings in 24 Hours ...TOMORROW!

Gone By

"Gone By" 20 x 24 available
This is a big one I am taking to SEWE with me in a couple weeks....It was worked up from a plein air "Quick Draw" painting I did on location in Winter Park, CO last summer....this was Henry, the beloved dog of Doug Martin, a super artist...the real working title for the painting was "Henry's Rear End From The Front", because I NEVER saw this side of Henry....he was too busy scoping out the Geese (see them swimming by above?) and was not a very cooperative model....Posted by Picasa

Sonny

"Sonny"

I have painted so many snowy, cloudy days lately, that I thought it was time for something "Sonny"! I just finished this commissioned "portrait" of Tina's beloved guy kicking back in some warm sunshine.
If you get my daily painting by e-mail then you saw my other version of Sonny, but Tina chose this one. ...and I have a THIRD "Sonny" that I might post another time! I'd be interested to know which one you like! To get the daily e-mail please leave your address at right and click "Join". Then you get the art in your mailbox and you don't have to read all the ramblings....just look at the art and toss it!

Romeo Lounge

"Romeo Lounge - Sketch" V....Vaughan

Yesterday's post will tell you a little bit about Romeo. He is our "GOOD Dane"...not great...GOOD. Danes are huge and hugely gentle and loyal. Romeo is an outside dog, mostly, except in weather extremes (which is often in Texas!). THis week is cold and when I wasn't looking, he escaped his kitchen floor bed and we found him on the couch, pretending he belonged there. I made him pay for it...with a pose for this sketch. How about them legs!? No exaggeration, I promise!

"Cruiser and Kaylee"

"Cruiser and Kaylee"....10 x 8 ..............and 8 x 10................for the Wilkie's

These are a couple of paintings I did for a couple of nice people I know. Aren't they lucky to have such warm, precious pets?!! BIG NEWS...If any of you listened to the Laura Ingraham Show (a national radio show) on Monday, she mentioned me and a little painting I did of her dog, Troy, who recently died. I was moved by her tale of Troy so painted a little picture....As I was in my studio, Monday, I just about fell off the chair when I heard her mention the art at the end of her show. She said that she'd post it on her web site, but I haven't seen it yet....maybe someone needs to remind her :) (http://www.lauraingraham.com/)And for the Wilkie's....I will send Kaylee and Cruiser as soon as the paint dries! Merry Christ mas Y'all!

Maria is our awesome Labrador retreiver. We live on a farm and people have often dumped unwanted pets nearby. Over the years we have rescued dozens of dogs and cats. But Maria is one that my son saved for and bought with his own money.
