Friend Me, Makenzie-My Favorite Social Media

Friend Me, Makenzie        12 x 12 oil             SOLD

I have at LEAST 1500 friends.
At least that's what my social Media Accounts tell me!
One of my friends told me she heard a buzz out there that "blogging is dead". I think Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter started those rumors!
I have done BOTH blogging AND social media extensively....here's what I think... I LOVE the "friendships" I have built with Blogging, and my Google Group....Though sometimes I feel like I am "rambling"... I sense that Instagram and Twitter are like that big high school gathering where everyone has a clever comment, but no one listens, and CERTAINLY
nobody "goes deep".... Have you ever traded quips with someone (usually an argument) and they walk into the room, snap a comment, and then run away before you can reply?....Twitter feels LIKE THAT! I DO like being able to post a picture on Instagram (though EVERY pic is cropped to a "square"...NOT good for some artwork...I like saying just a few words, posting the pic, and clicking a button that will send it SIMULTANEOUSLY to facebook AND Twitter (though, with no pic on Twitter, there is a link to the pic, if someone will click it, but I doubt they do :) So there! I will be doing it ALL while I make up my mind! :) WHAT SAY Y'ALL???

The Right Hand

The Right Hand
12 x 12 oil on canvas

Like yesterday's post, I have wanted to paint this for quite a while, having shot a great photo of this cowgirl, Tara. She is the "Right Hand" that goes with "The Hand", I guess! I will resume the Birdseed Project tomorrow!

Sketch 6__Barrel Racer

Barrel Racer ___from my Colorado sketchbook___auction soon
I like this one best, of all the recent sketches...probably because I did it from a photo, and had more "eye time" on the subject!....Cool rain in Colorado, today!

...OH!!!...about the mystery crop (click here to see what I am talking about...)
I heard from an "expert" in agriculture from that area of south Louisiana...here is what he says...
All of you who guessed it can say "I told you so!"

It appears to be a variety of soybeans. Some varieties have long, narrow, pointed leave. I can’t think of anything else that anyone would be growing in Assumption parish.

Cowgirl Quick Draw

Cowgirl Quick Draw__14 x 11 oil, sold at auction, Phippen Museum Western Art Show 2010
Sunday afternoon was the second Quick Draw at this recent show. We had an hour to paint and frame a painting. I chose an image to work from which I painted last summer as a demo in a workshop. I used the same reference and since I worked so fast I chose to not try for a "likeness", so it doesn't look like the model...this would be a "generic cowgirl"...(but it looks familiar, eh, Marla??)...it sold for a good price to a very happy patron!
On June 14 - 16 I will teach a "serious" workshop in Fredericksburg, TX. The focus is on DRAWING and Drawing to paint, and working quickly to get the "Impression". For three days we will capture "starts" on smaller canvases, work with color during the cool parts of the day and work in the studio on drawing lessons in the heat of the day. I promise a great improvement in your drawing direction...this will be a great "workout" for three days. You have the option to stay for a 4th day to finish a few of your starts. Or, you can stay and do new starts There will be lots of critique and a few demos so you can see how it's done.
Contact Fredericksburg Artists School if you want to come...It will be a small class, and you can sign up at the last minute if there is room. Let me know if you sign up! vvaughan8@yahoo.com
