Gertrudis Gathering

Gertrudis Gathering___12 x 16 oil on canvas panel___$950 to the Gadsden Art Museum

I painted with artist Amanda Carder on a nice back road full of farms near Gadsden, Alabama....this herd kept moving that morning, giving me lots of "cow views", and a couple of small studies which I have already posted. All the works are still at the Museum, on display with Amanda's work and some 13 other artists...

On the Way

On the Way___12 x 12 gallery wrap___for an upcoming show
YES! THis one is a larger version of my last post called On the 28th. WHen I do similar paintings I like to keep the titles similar so that I can find them in my files...This painting was prepared for an upcoming exhibit of the PACT Team at Hill Country Bible Church next month...I will talk about that as the time draws near.
I have a couple of almost full workshops drawing near...June 13-15 in Fredericksburg, TX and June 18 in Smithville, TX...I have heard that the Smithville group has been doing their "homework" which I "assigned" a few weeks ago! I am eager to meet up with some of these artists who have already worked with me!

On the Twenty-Eighth

On the Twenty-Eighth__6x8 oil on linen__special commission
I painted this as a special commission for DB and KB...I hope they like it....the date of this farm painting was OCTOBER 28...
Saturday is the 28th of May....a day I have been preparing for for 12 years! My youngest son will graduate high school tomorrow....on his way to college and life beyond!...Just as I am on my way to an empty nest and life beyond!....We were reminded of that today, (Friday) as we went to the funeral for Aunt June....my husband's GREAT Aunt. Our families had a lot of contact with one another...it was great to see the extended family at the funeral on the south side of San Antonio...we all vowed to get together soon BEFORE the next funeral....June was almost 90. She was a friend of Grandmother Helen and married to her brother, Roy who died a few years ago....WONDERFUL TEXAS PEOPLE with a rich love of life and family...from an era that we owe a lot to..... She passed quietly in her sleep...what a blessing and GIFT to her daughters...

Green Extreme

Green Extreme___6x8 oil on linen panel__for Passing America: the Great Plains

Yesterday I posted a painting from the "winter" extreme of my recent plains trip. This one is the Spring extreme, someplace in Texas. This spot is where the farms have nearly FULLY complied with the change of seasons. Grasses, trees, and even the stubborn pecan trees are bloomed and budded in that bright clean green of spring. We are having a severe draught here in Texas, so I expect it to turn brown-yellow soon....but I hope not...we sure need rain!

Aspen Here, Aspen There

Aspen Here, Aspen There___6x8 oil study on linen panel___$150 wet

This Colorado scene is just north of the scene I posted yesterday....I was waiting for Pat to finish her larger painting, so I grabbed another small canvas to depict this: layers of Aspen trees ascending this part of the San Juan range...
I have probably told this story before, but here goes again....If you are an artist you probably understand!...When I first started painting in oils about 10 years ago, I took on "green", being inspired by a beautiful location in Colorado...the outcome was a disaster...back then I thought that green was only blue + yellow...and add white to make it lighter....Being a SERIOUS, committed artist, I saved the disaster, showing it to no one (I have my pride, you know!)...I also still have the awful painting...one day when the pride will let me, I will show the awful green mud I created in my "inspired" moment...I am still humbled by green....

Enchanted Spring

Enchanted Spring __12 x 16 oil on linen panel___state 1 plein air study
Late in the day on my painting excursion with Pat, yesterday, we were on the road to Enchanted Rock and HAD to stop to paint this scene. The grass was so green and lit just right it actually hurt the eyes!...and the photos are very dark, so I am glad I painted this one from life...I will need to "finish" it from the photos, but the colors I need are there :) (I will post the finished one if I remember)
Today was my actual birthday. THANK YOU to all my old friends! It was a SPECIAL treat to hear from a friend who has known me the very longest! Rhonda and I were babies together, lost track of each other for 30 years and today, remembering my birthday, she found me. God bless Mr. Internet! ...My favorite part was dinner with my family! After a great meal they rented a "nice" "G" rated movie. Last year's birthday movie is STILL a big sore subject around our house...the kids thought I would like "Sweeny Todd...the Evil Barber" (or something like that). They know I like musicals, and I like Pirates of the Caribbean, but in this one, Johnny Depp cut people's throats in the barber chair while singing broadway songs!! Caught us all off guard...way too graphic ...we were not expecting all the blood! I was horrified and traumatized...my kids still laugh at their own poor judgment that day. vvaughan8@yahoo.com
