Invisible Clearly Seen

Invisible Clearly Seen___30x24 oil on linen___Contact V.... for info
I am a member of a group of artists who exhibit 4 times a year at a church in Austin, TX. This group is VERY DIVERSE, with artworks that explore many different media and methods, including sculpture, metalwork, glass and mosaics. Each exhibit has a theme, and the artists create works based on the theme. We write an interpretation of our work in accordance with the theme. Here is my interpretation of my new painting above:
"God's created handiwork reveals His very character. When we seek to understand Him, He often uses His natural world to "explain" and answer some complex questions. Sunrise happens every morning, and it is often a visual rhapsody displaying His glory! We see LIGHT swallowing darkness, reminding us that God IS LIGHT. Light reflects off of other created things: the moon, fog, clouds: These only reflect and do not generate light or color or warmth."
Come to the reception Friday, if you are nearby!
The Prayer and Creativity Team (PACT) Presents "Visual Rhapsody" a multi media art exhibit at "Open Doors" Gallery at Hill Country Bible Church Northwest Campus in the Worship Center Balcony (Building A- 3rd Floor).
The opening reception will be Friday, September 21 from 7-9 pm
  • Free admission
  • Excellent, original artwork with a Christian perspective.
  • Live music and delicious desserts served.

Blue as Fog

Blue as Fog___6x8 oil on linen__$190

Saturday we greeted the sunrise along a Hill Country creek near Marble Falls. I had hoped for sunrise color but this fog was a nice change. I had not painted "en plein fog" in awhile and it was fun this time, because we had some long views in a tight canyon.

If you take a workshop from me, be ready for some EARLY mornings. It is my favorite time to paint, because there are ALWAYS surprises!...our surprise this time was that Kay and Carol brought a tent to set up so that they could stay out of the sun and paint all day. While they set it up, I went traipsing around our perimeter, looking for things of interest. It is always good to do a "walk through"before painting. When I was a soccer coach, I always scoped out our field, from end to end and all the way around, noting things like where the sun was, and which way it was tracking....which way the wind was blowing, and if the field had any bumps or holes or even glass or rocks on it!....as a painter, I look for dangerous things like wasp nests, fire ant mounds and snakes...and if we have cell service or can get out quickly if "bad guys" show up. It all looked great till I noticed a sign on a tree right by our cars! "POSTED, no tresspassing"...Kay's tent was already staked in, so we got our stories synchronized and stayed put....ready to ask permission if someone busted us!....just to be safe, though, I left early! So, I hope they ended up OK! hahaha

Nebraska Color__Flames of Fog

(#2) Flames of Fog__6x8 oil "Passing America..."___for exhibit in 2011
Adter posting over 20 sketches from my Colorado Sketchbook, I am taking a week-long detour to post COLOR, again!
Earlier in the month I took a trip to Nebraska to paint another leg of my upcoming "Drive-By" exhibit. I have posted 5 of the 13 small works I did that trip, but I did not post #2. Here it is, above. To really appreciate it, please scroll down on the blog, back to August 6, when I posted #1. The other 4 are later than that. This one I call "Flames of Fog" because it depicts the thickest fog we saw that day. Near Bone Creek in an area the locals call "The ALps", because it is hilly and beautiful there! I marveled at how the light reflects on the fog much the same as it does on water....

Yanka, Nebraska and V street

(#1)Yanka, NE___6x8 oil "Passing America..."___for exhibit 2011
Yesterday began before sun-up and we drove east from David City, so I could paint the sunrise....above is my first "drive-by" painting for this leg of my journey across the
Great Plains. Yanka is just a spot on the railroad track, now, but it used to be a small community...I like that it shows the "PASSING" away of a little part of the Great Plains. There is a nice grain elevator there, and a beautiful foggy sunrise to bounce light off of it...note the reflected light on the fog.

As Allen drove me up and down the roads, we came to an intersection that had my name on it!....LITERALLY...see below...and below that is some original art I left on the backroads...my gift to Butler County, Nebraska!...I do not usually do such things, but I could not resist!...shhhh, don't tell anyone!

Demo Start_Barn in the Fog_12 x 16_V....Vaughan

Demo Start_Barn in the Fog_12 x 16_V....Vaughan
vvaughan8@yahoo.com
Yesterday was a gorgeous sunrise at our old farm, and I got to do a demo there for Plein Air Austin. There was a thick patch of fog early and the group took lots of pictures. They stuck it out with me for an hour or so, while I started this one and then when the color changed, I picked up a new canvas to start another one...and for the few who stayed later, I did a third...it was an amazing sunrise full of our version of Fall Color...a glorious warm sunrise! I will post the finish of this one tomorrow! Then I will post the others later in the week.
