8__Gigi's Girl

Gigi's Girl__8x6 oil __$190 includes shipping
#8 for my Bird Seed Project

My grandpa Pedro rescued a cardinal and called him Gigi...Gigi was a brilliant red bird who lived in a cage in grandpa's house. In the morning Gigi would sing his distinctive cardinal song, which sounds SO LOUD inside that it seemed to come from loud speakers. ...In the day, grandpa Pedro would bring the cage outside, open the door and watch Gigi fly into the trees where he continued singing all morning....later, Gigi would come back to the cage and sleep inside the house all over again
This little cardinal bird just might be Gigi's girlfriend!

Light on the Way

Light on the Way___12x12 oil on canvas____$550
I prepared this art for an exhibit at Hill Country Bible Church. The exhibit is called "Roads and Directions" and opens next weekend.
There are 4 exhibits a year here and each one is WONDERFUL and full of variety. Each piece of art comes with an "Artists Interpretation"...Here is my interpretation for this painting:
On a dark path, there is little temptation to stray off course,
or to proceed with the lights turned off!
The dark unknown has a way of keeping us close to the light.
There is a certain comfort in staying ONLY in the place illuminated by the headlights.
Though it is only a short distance, it is all we can see. Our walk with the Lord is much like the path at night. Yet we can FULLY trust that if it is His light shining on our path, we are going the right way.

Hawaiian Cardinal

Hawaiian Cardinal__8x6 oil on linen panel
I painted this one for a friend...Since neither one of us had our own original photos, I used several that I found on the internet, and combined the head on one, with the body of another and made up my own background....Now that I look at it, I see a few things I will change before getting it to it's "home". A good idea for you artists is to take a photo and look at your work small or in black and white...it gives you a fresh view!...Happy New Year!
On the day after tomorrow, I will give away the 1000th daily painting that I did a few days ago.
Click here to see it and read the story....Then email me at vvaughan8@yahoo.com to tell me if you want to be in on the drawing which will take place January 4th...

Little Cardinal_cardinal, red bird

Little Cardinal__8 x 6 oil study on canvas panel__$150 if you are the first to ask!
Many cardinals have been hopping around between the trees in our back yard these days. They seem to show up better this time of year....I love the cardinal's song. It is very distinct and LOUD and clear! My Grandpa Pedro (a wonderful Italian man from the Old Country) rescued a little cardinal in his garden. Gigi lived in a cage in the house and would sing every morning...LOUD! When Grandpa would go outside, he would take Gigi's cage, open the door and let him fly away...Gigi always returned for the night. This went on for years and is my fondest memory of Grandpa Pedro.
