My friend Barbara lives in Port Lavaca, and a few weeks ago Robin Cheers and I went down there to paint and of course we painted along the way! But we had a fun time sitting in the car, painting downtown PL while lightning flashed.
Robin and I are having a Chocolate and Chiaroscuro event...that means WE DRAW, and everyone else enjoys CHOCOLATE, coffees, and other Holiday goodies from Joe's and the Austin Truffle Company! Come meet us and hang out on  Wednesday Nov. 20

Gadsden Light

Gadsden Light from the Brow___24 x 18___for the Southeastern Plein Air Festival
Last year this time, I was in Gadsden, Alabama, painting in the Southeastern Plein Air Festival. Due to a ball game, SAT test, Prom and a school athletic banquet, I could not go this time, but I worked in the studio from last year's photos...here is a painting that I am sending to the Gadsden Museum of Art. They have accepted it to do something special with it...not sure what, yet. It is a view of Gadsden, AL from the "brow", a hill rising above the town. The river is the Coosa River, and I forget the name of the other hill...maybe another brow? Hey Becky! Leave a comment when you see this and tell everyone the name of the other mountain. Last year we had HUGE storms pop up on opening night, and this painting reminds me of when I painted on the brow, and watched the storm roll in.
GO SEE THE ARTISTS' work, bid on a masterpiece and support plein air painting in the Southeast! Wish I was there! vvaughan8@yahoo.com

My 1000th Post___email me if you want to be "in the hat" to win this one!___winner to be determined on Jan. 4, 2010

Boy have I been thinking about this a lot. This is my 1000th post since I started doing a painting a day. I am giving away this original oil painting - a "THANK YOU" to many friends who have been along on this journey with me. I decided to paint what I MOST LIKE TO PAINT: My farm...I looked through MANY files (I have over 10,000 shots from the farm.... one day, my dream is to produce a BIG BOOK with the farm paintings, lots of these photos, and some writings....) So I chose to paint a NEW DAY...a sunrise...full of color and HOPE! I want the painting to be a reminder and an encouragement to whoever wins it! I want it to be meaningful and as I thought about it I kept remembering something I was taught a long time ago. It is from the ancient writings of a wise King named Solomon, in a book called Ecclesiastes." Even if someone lived a thousand years—make it two thousand!—but didn't enjoy anything, what's the point? Doesn't everyone end up in the same place?"...the book ends with this "solution" to how to spend your life: fear God (revere and worship), do what He tells you, for this is the whole duty of mankind....
Sorry, I tend to think too deep sometimes...this is, after all, just a little bit of color on a canvas! I will take names of those interested until the drawing on January 4...Merry CHRISTmas!

Winter Day 24 Hours

"Winter Day Last Year on the Farm" 24 paintings in 24 hours____7pm hour

I have wrapped up my 24 hour marathon for "Winter Day Last Year on the Farm"...the session surprised me in MANY ways....FIRST, I had not planned a few days ahead of time, like I did in the Fall. On Friday I began painting in the afternoon...the SKY was brilliant! I just kept going! I think I might have actually painted more than 24 paintings....I have only photographed a few and may not organize the series until early next week, because I am frantically trying to frame up, label, pack and ship dozens of paintings for the SEWE show in Charleston. I must ship the first batch TOMORROW....so this is a little tease of things to come! 24 paintings in 24 hours "Winter Day Last Year on the Farm"
