23- Mocking Back

Mocking Back__6x8 oil on linen panel___$390 framed for Southeastern Wildlife Exposition
#22 in the Birdseed Project
I hope you can zoom in on this one...it is one of my favorites...maybe because my favorite bird is the mocking bird. It is the state bird of the great state of Texas, and another state or two! Please click the link above if you are not familiar with my Birdseed Project! I am thrilled to see the word spread, and to see things HAPPENING!...Right now I am framing, packing and doing last minute paintings for SEWE in Charleston, SC. I ship the works next week, and then I will have some news to share about my birdseed project...including the real "official" project name!!!

17 - Whooping Take-off

Whooping Take-Off__6x8 oil study__$190
I have plenty of little bird studies ahead, to benefit my Bird Seed Peoject! Please see link! Here is another small work painted from my photos of some rare whooping Cranes. Last year in South Carolina, I spent some time at a wioldlife refuge where a pair of whoopers were wintering. The refuge Biologist, Dean took me and a couple other artists over to watch them through the trees. Pretty soon they took off and flew right over us and I got some amazing photos. This take-off was right at sunset.

15- Whooping Flight

6 x 8 oil on linen panel__$190 unframed
I remember when I was a little girl and the whooping crane was so rare...there were only a few dozen left in the whole world. Today there are only a few hundred, and a bad winter or hurricanes could wipe out many at any given time...so to see them in the wild is a real treat! I saw this one in flight last winter in South Carolina.

#6- Egret Fisherman

Egret Fisherman__6x8 oil__$190 includes shipping
Birdseed Project #6

These Great Egrets stroll the marshy edges and have their meals! Of course I don't need to buy seed for them!  At LEAST 10 % of this purchase price will go into the bird seed fund, and I hope it starts the ball rolling on approaching some local businesses to also donate seed. I find that there are many funds "for the children"...but not many for the greatest generation...Here is a little story about Dan:
Dan visits his wife Jan every day. She lives in my mom's nursing home. Dan has spotted me filling the bird feeders and several times he asked me to scatter some seed on the ground for the birds who prefer to feed there...I did this a few times, then realized that my mom, in her wheelchair cannot see the low-birds. Dan knew this and started handing me a $5 bill every few weeks "to cover some seed for the low-birds"...
THIS is the story that sparked my seed project, and inviting YOU to join!

#5_Turkey Trio

Birdseed Project #5
Turkey Trio___6x8 oil ___$190 includes shipping
Here is a young turkey with a few pals gobbling in the background. Wild turkeys are all over my area of central Texas....these actually FLEW away after I photographed them...not a graceful sight!  :)
I have received the first "seed money" for my little bird seed project...something I am doing during these cold weeks, to keep the feeders full at my mom's nursing home! During these weeks where I will post bird paintings and sketches, I am putting over 10% into a fund to supply feed for the birds...the old people LOVE to watch the birds!...Later in the week I will Actually purchase the first bags of seed...I will post pictures then and give a few more details about this place...several of you have asked how you might give...I will get info on that, too ....Any more ideas for a name for my project? I have gotten some great ideas!
Merry CHRISTmas!

Grazing Riverside

Grazing Riverside__11x14 oil on canvas panel__available at the Gadsden Art Museum

Painted on location on the Coosa River in northern Alabama. I photographed while still in the field, and never took a picture after I "formed" the horses a little better...so this (above) is a step before "finish"...below is a picture that, when I looked at it later, seems to "line up" with the scene I was painting...

LAst Year on the Farm-March 8 Sunrise

Last Year on the Farm - March 8 Sunrise 6 x 8 oil
A Brilliant show, this morning! We had a foggy "bottom" which reflects the light like water does. Did I tell you that the cows are gone? I would have enjoyed seeing their forms through the low fog. Nancy, you need more horses, out here!!!
