Bloom Ripples___________click here to bid

"Bloom Ripples"..........oil.................6 x 8

A little water lily I painted this fall at my church. THis was a practice painting I did before a demonstration for Plein Air Austin, a great group of painters in our area. I will probably paint some more of these this weekend at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. I'll be showing some new works at their Christmas Event Saturday and Sunday. The event is inside and the venue is warm and cozy! Please come see me there! I don't know what cold weather does to water lilies, but we will find out!.

Rockport Cloudline.....Click to Bid

"Rockport Cloud Line"..................................................................6 x 6 oil

This was painted last week on location in Rockport, TX. We marveled that the clouds stayed like this for a couple hours! Really! I learned from Caro, a local who has sailed the world, that the clouds come off the water and build up along the shore as they hit land...Great to know, if you are a painter painting "moving targets" (our theme that day). I have been teaching a workshop series: one Saturday each month in the fall. Please join our great painting group "en plein air" for the last Fall class on Sat. Dec. 16. *note to my class....see how much better it looks with the figures on the beach?

Maria is our awesome Labrador retreiver. We live on a farm and people have often dumped unwanted pets nearby. Over the years we have rescued dozens of dogs and cats. But Maria is one that my son saved for and bought with his own money.

As I painted this morning, I noticed that most of the green is gone from our pastures...We sure need rain. Thisa was a glorious mild Sunday morning before church. I hear that very cold weather is on the way. I will try to paint it!

Blackwater Greens

"Blackwater Greens" 6 x 6.......................$100 TODAY
If you are looking in for the first time today, scroll down for other paintings from the Blackwater Refuge in Maryland. I painted there a couple weeks ago. At just the right moment as the sun rose, the water in the distance actually looked minty green! It felt strange to "apply" that color, and I did not like the painting that day, but now, it is one of my favorites, lately! This one is available.

11 - 22 - 2006..............................Last Year on the Farm

This part of our farm is "the bottom"....it is the gathering place for fog this time of year. I call this little painting "Manor's Twin Towers" because I included a couple of the water towers in nearby Manor. ....Yesterday was Thanksgiving...

Happy Thanksgiving

11-23-2006...............................painted this morning

It was foggy early, so I enjoyed painting this...It set the mood for Thanksgiving. This is my favorite Holiday, because it is simple and all about giving THANKS....I thank God for this last year on the farm. I am determined to enjoy every moment!

Rockport Afternoon

"Rockport Afternoon"..................6 x 8..................$250
please e-mail if you are interested in this little painting

This was my last painting on Saturday in Rockport. I taught a workshop there with eleven wonderful painters and friends. If any of you are looking in today, I'll bet you are surprised by the painting I chose to post first! This was the one I liked the LEAST that day! It often works like that....the one I liked the best looks like a cartoon to me, so I will play with it before I post it tomorrow.....maybe.

Travel Morning

11-17-2006 Last Year on the Farm
A few days ago I painted this before taking off for Rockport, and another one-day workshop. What a great Saturday it was after a strong front blew through. The weather was SO bright, clear and calm. This painting reminds me of the whole weekend! Except for the moon, each morning has been this clear and beautiful. I will post a few paintings from our workshop in the next few days...stay tuned!

Quiet House

11-15-2006 Last Year on the Farm

So, this morning there was no light on in Nana's house. See yesterday's post for a similar painting. I have been in Maryland and wondered if Aunt Nancy had programmed a light to come on in the house, since Nana lives away, now. This morning only the driveway street-light was on, as usual. Nana's house looks lonely....a fitting symbol as we prepare to move away, too.....not for a few months, though! More farm paintings to come!

11 - 14 - 2006 Last Year on the Farm
Today is WINDY and much colder than when I painted this yesterday....This is Nana's house as seen from my studio. There have been no lights on this early since she left to live in an assisted living place. I used to see lights on SO EARLY every morning as she and Pa, dairy farmers, were used to being up before the sun....Their daughter, Aunt Nancy, now runs the farm. She must have had the light on this morning. It was good to see it! Our fall colors are best noticed in the grasses...starting to turn orange and red...to an artist. Posted by Picasa

Eagle

"Blackwater Eagle" 6 x 6 available
I am back in Texas after a great long weekend in Easton, Maryland.....Had a great time with new friends and old, painting every morning at the Blackwater and then selling the art in the afternoon. This one was painted on location and , after the initial sketch, from memory. It has that "Impressionist" look....another word for "painted in a hurry before the eagle flies!" The eagle landed a few hundred yards away, but someone there loaned me their scope for the sketch.
Please send me an e-mail if you are interested. This is indeed a small work, measuring 6 x 6 inches

Ducks Flew In

11 - 02- 2006 6:50 - 7:15 am
As I painted this morning (in the Freezing - for Texas- cold!) these ducks flew in to land on our tank. A "tank" is Texan for pond. We call them stock tanks because the cows take water there. I will paint the tank this afternoon!
Two days ago I painted in shorts....today it is very chilly!....that is our new TOLL ROAD in the distance....just opened yesterday. The farm is changing....
