E.T Cloud

The sunrise was brilliant that morning in Rockport, so I quickly chose a small part of it to paint a demo for the group. I selected an interesting group of clouds and worked fast before the color changed. This was a sketch, with colors exaggerated to make a point about complementary colors. I finished it in about 20 minutes then turned the class loose to catch the remaining light. When I went back to my sketch later that morning I saw that my cloud looked like ET....long skinny neck, oval head and all! I used it as a lesson to NOT PAINT what you see, all the time! I spent a few more minutes with "ET's neck...Here is the "corrected" sketch. (still too bright for my liking!)

Farrah and Nate

Farrah and Nate are my neice and her husband...these are their "children" (for now!) memorialized for them in a little painting I did a few months ago. I titled the painting "Farrah and Nate" , but they probably changes the title! The painting was started as a demo on water for a workshop group in Rockport. If you ever want to paint in a pretty location, GO TO ROCKPORT, TX. I hope you will look around for some of the artists, there...a SERIOUSLY fun group. Come paint with me there this fall in 3 more "one-day" workshops. See my website schedule for details.

This was the picture I painted at a plein air demo last week. I call it "Bloom Ripples". On Saturday, Sept. 30 this plein air group will be painting with the Oil Painters of America members in Texas who can come to Austin. Anyone can come watch. It should be fun.

E-mail me if you are interested in this painting

Texas Coast - Rockport

What a great place to paint! Nine artists allowed me to drag them all over town for a FULL day workshop this past Saturday. And we were all beat up pretty well by the MAJOR wind there in Rockport. Everyone's equipment held up admirably, and we put in a FULL DAY, starting at sunrise, ending at sunset.
I did this little painting before I left...I stayed at my friend's house while they traveled. I had asked if I could do anything for them while they were out and they jokingly told me to trim the bushes and paint the bedroom....I opted for the painting, of course....this is the bedroom....from the outside and at a distance.
I will teach three other one day workshops this Fall. Oct 21, Nov 18, Dec 16...come paint with us!

Heading to Rockport, TX

I leave in a few hours for that beautiful beach: Rockport, TX. Will be teaching a one-day oil painting workshop with a group of "seriously-fun" artists. The weather is supposed to be fine and we are going to see every moment of the day! My workshops start with the day....at sunrise. Oh, and I "work 'em hard"...our last painting will be at sunset! (the weenies will take a break at mid-day....some times I do, too :). So this will be may last post until Monday....Sunday will be tempting, because I will have a few new things from the coast, but I try to keep Sunday for my family.
see you Monday!
Oh, if you ever see anything on this blog that you like, please let me know. I can send purchase info, too.

Early this morning on the farm looked a lot like this....Last day of summer but the fields are already brown because of the draught. I rather like it this way, because of the warm colors against the cool sky....well, if you can call our high temp (95) cool. Blue is considered a cool color, and the sky is mostly blue, today.

Finally Cooled off

This is what it looks like on the farm in September(we are in Central Texas)....the grass is dry, sparse and not too green. Yesterday the "cow birds" were all around...at a distance as usual, never letting me get too close.
I haven't painted yet, today, but this one is from a few months ago.

I Thought I would try this....Putting today's painting up on a blog.
We will be moving from the farm, soon, so I am painting it every day.
That explains it!
