Thou My Vision___60 x 40 demo at HP

This week I gave a little talk and did a demo for High School students at Hyde Park High in Austin.
My theme was about SYMOLISM in scripture. Mainly Light and COLOR (the colors of light and the color of pigment)....There is a lot of interesting symbolism in all of this, one of which is depicted with contrasts: Light and Dark, Sky and Scape, Flesh and Spirit. After speaking I did a 20 minute painting demo, accompanied by some music.
I painted this sideways (see below, and click the link to see a video that my friend, Bev made while there....some could'nt see the symbolism until the canvas was rotated...I LOVE when that happens :)

SEWE Demo and the Bone Creek Workshop

SEWE Demo for the Junior Duck Stamp Artists
A Tricolor Heron
A few weeks ago I painted this one as a demo for some young artists in a workshop in South Carolina. The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition in South Carolina names their winners earlier than most states...our Texas competition is tomorrow...Good luck, Ethan!

Speaking of WORKSHOPS!!!!
FINALLY, I get to go to one FOR FUN, and not "work"!
In April, the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art in Nebraska is hosting a workshop with TWO fine painters leading the way! I am going out there to paint with Michael Albrechtsen and
Michael Bingham...I plan to be the class troublemaker and make them really push me!...CAN'T WAIT! I think there is still room for a few more painters, so if you can, COME PAINT WITH US! The price is AMAZING for these two great painters, and I know a few of the attendees...SERIOUS artists who like to have SERIOUS fun...I have painted in these locations (see ME in the photo at the link below!)....they are BEAUTIFUL locations! Especially this time of year. Go a few days early and see the cranes on the Platte River, if you can! Here is the link with registration and location info...

Antler Demo

Antler Demo___For Students and Chiaroscuro and Chocolate Workshop__Sept 27
My September focus has been on DRAWING. Both in my professional workshops, my high school teaching and also with contest entries.(more on that later).
Here is a quickie demo I enjoyed doing for some high school students. They really got into this one, which I did with water soluble graphite....I hope you can zoom in to see the detail, which is quite RUGGED :)
At Thursday's drawing session "Chiaroscuro and Chocolate", I have been sharing all these cool drawing materials...this isn''t "LINE DRAWING", but my approach is very different...LET ME KNOW if you want to join us for a few hours Thursday in north Austin, TX. Cost is $30...plus chocolate fees  :)

Daily Nebraskan Story

Workshop Demo__after "Where Morning Gathers"___12x16__$950 unless you are in the workshop

So! Last night was the opening of "Passing America: The Great Plains"...lots of people came, on a busy night in Lincoln, NE. Bill Cosby performed across the street, and the Husker Homecoming festivities were in full force. As I type this, the Huskers are on TV, momentum on their side as they are catching up to BEAT Ohio State! (football fan, here).

I am staying in NE an extra week, to teach a series of workshops.

Today, I taught a full group of mostly professional artists. I demonstrated my technique of painting fast, by simplifying the scene into 5-7 shapes of color, and pre-mixing the colors. Below is my palette, with colors pre-mixed, in ORDER as they will be placed on the canvas. ...The demo is a derivative of my LARGEST painting at the Great Plains Art Museum..

Tomorrow we will meet at sunrise and paint till sunset! Get ready, y'all!!!

Please read the nice article below...

Danielle Rue is a young writer for the Daily Nebraskan, (University paper) and she did a VERY good job of interviewing me! Thank you, Danielle! The story is great, and makes me want to meet me! hahaha
