Line of Scrimmage

Line of Scrimmage__12x24 oil on linen___$2100
Available at Cactus Jack's in Gruene, TX
My longhorn paintings have football titles and images that reflect some of the deep things about the game, teamwork and how football is a lot like life!  There are "holes" in all allegories, but I like the symbolism found in sports...When a Quarterback steps up to the line, he looks around and must be aware of everything, while the lineman focus ONLY on their assignment and timing...I imagine that the other team is across the water and....

Longhorn to the Right

Longhorn to the Right__6x6 oil on canvas panel___$150 unframed
Tomorrow I will post a companion painting for this one...I painted both at the nursing home for my mom. She used to travel a lot with me but can't get out anymore. Her mind is sharp and she is interested in EVERYTHING! Mom always liked watching me draw and paint, so I like to draw for her...the fun for her is just WATCHING! I reminded her that watching me paint is as exciting as watching paint dry...literally! :)
I have some great workshops SOON! Beginners welcome and the fun is guaranteed! Contact me soon for your spot....

Hook Em_sketch, Longhorn, Texas

Hook Em__8.5 x 5.5 pencil sketch__$75
Ah, Longhorns! Our great symbol of Texas pride and the mascot of our University! I have always lived near pastures of longhorns, even now in a Round Rock neighborhood, there is a ranch nearby with many longhorns! I like to sketch them, because they have a different physique from the cows on our old farm. You cannot just sketch any old cow and then add horns. Longhorns look different!....and the females have horns, too!
PLEASE look at my new blog, and consider following my project "Passing America: The Great Plains". I heard from an artist buddy. Michael Ome Untiedt who was not real fond of the way I explained the project. He is one of my VERY FAVORITE artists and just about the best writer I know, so I will be doing some editing on that blog to communicate better what it is all about . Stay tuned and go take a look.

Waiting for Green

"Waiting for Green"_____6x8 oil on fine linen_____taking to AZ unless someone wants it for $200

I painted this recently and my long drive today showed similar scenes: Spring is near! The trees have little green buds as far north as Southern Kansas! The cranes are on their way north, and the redbuds are splashing all over Oklahoma!

This longhorn had a warm sunbath, but the grass is not green yet....but SOON!

BIG NEWS!!!! The farm where I did all my painting had a big fire! Just when I plan to paint it next week "One Last Day on the Farm" 24 paintings in 24 hours....A film crew is supposed to come out for the marathon, but I will tell you more about that when it's a "sure thing".

I saw the blackened pasture and thin it will make for some interesting paintings!

Mark your calendar for a painting day in Rockport, TX! I'll give a plein air workshop on April 26. We will tackle drawing problems on canvas. Here is a hint...a pencil is a line maker, but a brush makes SHAPES!!! Contact me for info or to sign up. Click here vvaughan8@yahoo.com
